This morning Gov. Romney selected Rep. Paul Ryan from Wisconsin as his running mate. After listening to Gov. Romney’s eloquent introduction in front of the U.S.S. Wisconsin, (without tele-prompter), and Congressman Ryan’s enthusiastic acceptance speeches, I feel more optimistic than I have in a long time. Listening to what they had to say felt right. As we listened to them speak there was an almost palpable sense of relief from the audience at the Norfolk Naval Base. Are we finally going to be able to get back to fiscal sanity? Rep Ryan referred to the Romney/Ryan team as the “Come Back Team,” which I think is a terrific slogan. We need a come back and this is definitely the team that can do it.
The one funny moment came when Gov. Romney introduced Rep. Ryan as “the next President of the United States.” He was notified of his mistake after he left the podium and he promptly came back to re-introduce him as the Vice-presidential candidate. I think everyone had a good laugh, including the Romney-Ryan team, which demonstrated how delightfully human and down to earth they both can be.
