Dear Friends,

As you know, we are in the midst a very interesting campaign to see who will occupy Frank Lautenberg’s Senate seat. Both Steve Lonegan and Alieta Eck have solid conservative credentials and are deserving of your consideration.

We have invited both to speak at a meeting scheduled for June 27. While we have not yet received confirmation, it would be a good idea to pencil in the date. Hopefully we can get one or both on the agenda. I’ll give you updates as we get additional information. It will be held at the Bridgewater Library at the usual time: 7:00 PM.

Because of this the June 19 meeting has been cancelled.

I’ll keep you posted.

George

People are starting to ask some serious questions about Common Core. When there is a radical change in education most people are expecting to see improvement in test results and a level of preparedness that makes American students more competitive worldwide. It appears that Common Core may not be meeting those expectations. Questions are also arising about the focus of Common Core. A focus on academics seems to have been replaced in some instances with more emphasis on analyzing informational texts, with less emphasis on “historical context and background knowledge.” Another question is what is the cost to taxpayers and are the results worth the money? Most Americans value education and are willing to put money into an educational system that provides a quality education for children. The question is does Common Core provide a quality education? Both Republicans and Democrats, on a state and national level are beginning to see that Common Core may be in trouble and some states are even questioning whether it is even legal. Before we spend any more time, effort, and money on Common Core, it would behoove us to get the answers to the questions that are being raised. Please read “The Beginning of Common Core’s Trouble,” from the Weekly Standard.

On Memorial Day we remember all the men and women who lost their lives in the service of our country. The video below shows a World War II veteran as he visits the World War II Memorial. As he views the names of the battles you can almost see him remembering the war and the friends he lost. Whether they served in World War II or a more recent war every soul lost was a loss for our country. Memorial Day is a day to remember those who died for our country. On Memorial Day and every day it is never wrong to thank a veteran for their service.
